Dried Coconut Shells: Instead of throwing away those hollowed out coconut shells, dry them in your oven for about 30 minutes on 200 degrees. They'll dry out completely, and wah-lah you have the perfect chew toy for a lucky macaw! You can get creative and make your own toys with it or just leave it on the bottom of a cage for your little feathered friend to munch on as they please.

Wooden Cooking Spoons: Unused, new, wooden cooking spoons are the perfect 'chew it to pieces' cage accessory for large birds. Because they are untreated and raw wood, they are safe for macaws to chew on. Attach one to the side of the cage near a perch with some all-natural hemp cord. It's a great way to keep your bird entertained for a few long hours!

Plain Cardboard Boxes: A cardboard box may be the universal toy for all animals and human children alike. For birds always look for cardboard that doesn't have ink on it (as sometimes it can be piousness). Remove all tape and any tape residue. And don't use gift boxes that have a shiny gloss on them. Just look for plain cardboard boxes. And then let your macaw go to work. You can set it on the bottom of the cage or attach it to the sides, a perch, another toy, anywhere really!
